One of our favorite events has always been the Rennsport Reunion. Every three years Migliore’s band of brothers make the trek to Monterey to compete with some of the best cars and drivers in the world. This year was no exception, Nico Castellacio called on a few of his former drivers and friends to create a dream team for the 2018 event.
With prep beginning in April, the Migliore crew prepared and tested the Coke 935 several times before Pat Long gave it his seal of approval. The shop was buzzing with excitement in early September when we held our first Pre-Rennsport BBQ to show off 9 of the 11 car we would bring to Monterey later in the month.
We can’t thank our crew enough for the long hours and hard work they endured that week. Crew Members Greg Dilione, Branden Kirschenmen, Matt Vasquez, Vinicius Leis, Mike Eaton, Loren Burgess, and Scott Carlberg came together to form the Migliore RRVI Team.
Car owner James Edwards who has long trusted Castellaccio with his cars wanted his last Rennsport to go out with a bang. Given the no limits attitude the team was able to take home the Weissach Cup P1 trophy as well as P1 & P2 in the Flacht Cup with drivers Jorge Bergmeister and Kevin Estre.
Rennsport will always be our favorite event and RRVI will forever be our favorite Rennsport.

Californian Makes Fourth Start in North America’s Longest Endurance Road Race
Migliore Motorsports has begun preparations for the 25-Hours of Thunderhill, the longest endurance road race in North America. This year’s event is scheduled for December 3-4 at Thunderhill Raceway Park in the foothills of Northern California. Migliore founder Nico Castellaccio announced today that his program will be making its first start, but his fourth personally, in the late season classic. The Lathrop, California-based operation has entered the No. 15 Fantasy Junction Daytona Prototype Chevrolet in the ESR class challenging for an overall win in the twice around the clock plus one-hour race.
Four endurance racing champions are signed up to drive the No. 15. Spencer Trenery of Fantasy Junction (Berkeley, California) is the lead-off driver for the program giving Migliore a strong foundation. Trenery brings his established pedigree of professional sports car racing – including the American Le Mans Series and GRAND-AM – to the effort. Multi-time Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona starter Rob Gewirtz (Springfield, OH) joins the driving squad in the Gen. 1 Daytona Prototype. In addition, MX-5 Cup driver Mark Drennan Sponsored by Winding Road (San Jose, CA) will join the experienced endurance drivers. In 2015 Drennan won NASA’s Western and Eastern States Championship in Spec Miata and was chosen as a finalist for the MRT24 Shootout. To round out the team, we have veteran 25-Hour driver Darrel Anderson (Petaluma, CA), who took 2nd place overall in 2015 on board to once again to race into the sun. Additional opportunities do remain.

As it readies itself for Thunderhill, Migliore is fresh off its first IMSA Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America win earlier this year. Castellaccio will be joined by Car Chief Abel Jimenez (Matador Motorsports Houston, Texas), Dennis Chizma (Napa, California), Loren Burgess (Pacifica, California) and Bill Margraf (Placerville, California) in the preparation and running of the No. 15 Fantasy Junction entry.
Castellaccio is a veteran of endurance racing and has won the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2003 and 2004, 24 Hours of Daytona in 2001 as well as the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2005. His past 25-Hours of Thunderhill wins include:
2011, No. 75 Team Mercer Motorsports Porsche GT3 ES, 641 laps, fast lap 1:45.036
2010, No. 75 Team Mercer Motorsports Porsche GT3 ES, 628 laps, fast lap 1:45.986
2009, No. 75 Team Mercer Motorsports, 761 laps, fast lap 1:47.224 (holds record of most laps ever completed).
With a stellar crew intact and a group of seasoned drivers, the Fantasy Junction Riley Daytona Prototype is a triple threat in this marathon auto race. Trenery commissioned Rick Fred of RF Engines (Concord, NC) to build a solid engine specifically designed for the 25-Hour. Fred brings years of experience at the highest level of racing. Career highlights include: 1st Place SLMR Dirt Late Model Championship 2015, 1st in class (6th overall) Pikes Peak International Hill Climb 2014, 1st place NCRA and SLMR Dirt Late Model Championship 2014, 1st place Grand Am Daytona Prototype Championship 2009 and 2007.
RF Engines was founded in July of 2015 by Rick Fred after the legendary Bob Cronin of CRD Engine Development passed away. Bob was Rick’s mentor for almost 10 years which allowed him to learn from one of the greatest engine builders in racing.
Fantasy Junction sells historically significant European classic and racing cars in Emeryville, California.

Most of our fans didn’t realize that before VIR, Migliore Motorsports had a slight setback at Road America in the second race on Sunday, August 7th. The 2015 Lamborghini Huracan car had to have a new rear sub-frame welded on, new engine installed, as well as the whole rear left side replaced. With no time for the team to come back to the Migliore Motorsports shop located in Lathrop, California, the car was repaired at Chicago Performance and Tuning with team friend Al Uscinski. The rear sub-frame was repaired at Karosserie in Wayne, PA.
Once the sub-frame was repaired on August 17th, the car returned to its temporary shop with the Migliore Crew and team owner Nico Castellaccio, Albert Watkins, Kyle Kavanagh and Loren Burgess, whom all worked tirelessly for three days to have the car ready and in tip top shape for the next race at Virginia International Raceway, August 27th where James placed 2nd in his class.
Nico Castellaccio Migliore Motorsports team owner: “I am always amazed at the caliber of our team. We just have such an amazing crew. These guys know how to make things happen in a time crunch. We were also lucky to have the help of Molly Dickson, Luna Ferrari and Barbara Paolini of Lamborghini making sure all the parts made it to the temporary shop in time for us to finish.”
The next Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo America event will be Sept. 14-16 at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

A great relationship has its perks. Our boys at Falken Tires were happy to loan our customer Josh Simpson a set of their developmental track specific race tires for Rennsport 2015 Laguna Seca Raceway. Simpson was pleased with his results and noted “Unbelievable grip”. He picked up 3.5 seconds on his time vs. the standard customer tires available. If given the choice Simpson would buy the track specific tires vs. standard tires. We believe in giving our customers options that allow them an optimal advantage over their opponents. We support Falken tires as well as all other tire companies. It’s not just about the name, it’s about the performance and our boys at Falken performed the best.
Thank you, Falken Tires!

From 2010-2011 Nico played a pivotal role as Crew Chief on the #17 Falken Tire Porsche 911 RSR for the American Le Mans Series season. Drivers Wolf Henzler and Brian Sellers utilized their factory sponsor and enjoyed tearing up the track with a plenty of Falken tires. *Over the years Henzler and Sellers played an important role into the development of Falkens high-performance tires.
During the 2011 ALMS season, Nico’s insight into the Porsche 911 RSR performance and the hardworking crew, lead the team to make some crucial and informed decisions which would result in two 1st place finishes at Mid-Ohio and Baltimore Grand Prix. These two wins would be the first of many podium opportunities for Falken over the years.
After gaining attention to the team by their wins at Mid-Ohio and Baltimore, Speedhunters captured all the behind the scenes action of the ALMS Laguna Seca Mazda Raceway race in Monterey, California Sept 30, 2011. Due to contact with a GT-C car during the race the #17 car sustained damage to the frame and water pump and was forced to retire at the four-hour mark.
To this day, Nico continues a great working relationship with Falken Tire and currently maintains the 2012 #17 Falken Porsche 911 RSR for owner Jim Edwards. Edwards is a long-time Porsche fan and collector. For one last time, Henzler had an opportunity to drive Mr. Edwards #17 Falken car in the 2015 Rennsport Reunion race at Laguna Seca Mazda Raceway in Monterey, California.
*In 2015 Falken retired their Porsche program and is no longer running in the Tudor/IMSA series.
